4 Tips for Decorating Your Sunroom

Blog

When youre stuck inside the house, theres no better way to get your daily dose of vitamin D than lounging in the sunroom. With a flood of natural light and a deep connection to nature, these rooms make the perfect spot to curl up with a good book or gather the family for quality time together (assuming you havent driven each other crazy yet). If youre looking for ways to revamp your sunroom, here are a few tips to keep in mind.

Separate Seating
Versatility is key when it comes to decorating this part of the home. You may want to incorporate a dining area where you can have breakfast while soaking up the morning light or dinners watching the sun go down. Additionally, a more casual seating area where people can converse allows for a diverse setting that meets a variety of needs.

UV Resistance
Whether youre picking out a new rug or fabrics to reupholster the furniture, remember that all of the decor should be UV-resistant in this sun-drenched sanctuary to ensure it has a long lifespan. Otherwise, youll find yourself dealing with a sunroom that looks tired and faded in no time.

Maximize Views
Its important to make sure that the views are on full display in order to give your sunroom a true connection to the outside world. Try to arrange the seating areas in a way that benefits from the best views in the room. Also, keep in mind how the sun comes in at different times so that youre not blinded by an afternoon glare each day. If this is a concern, then you may want to consider getting light-filtering shades to reduce the sun exposure a little bit.

Muted Colors
If you want to keep the room feeling crisp and bright, muted tones of beige or gray can make an excellent choice and will look much brighter as the sun pours in during the day. While more vibrant shades are always an option, be careful not to take the focal point away from the outdoor scenery.
